About 52 Things

"Who are you?"

Hi! My name is Austin, and I decided to set a lofty, but fun, New Year's resolution. I am challenging myself to complete 52 things, whether they be new, unique, or self-improving, one week at a time through 2014. Some of these things are very simple, such as trying a new foreign cuisine, and others are more in depth, such as organizing a charity drive. I am still organizing my thoughts and planning out my tasks, but I hope to organize this in such a way that others can feed off of my ideas and follow their own path in trying 52 things! Please feel free to follow me in my journey as I will be updating this blog at least once a week.

"Why are you doing this?"

Lots of random thoughts and ideas pop into my head and I tend to just blurt things out. My co-workers and friends can certainly attest to this. This 52 things idea was just a random thought floating out in Thought Land and my brain decided to grab it, and it seemed like a great idea! Good job, brain! *high five*

In all honesty, I live a pretty carefree and cushy life. Things have always gone smoothly for me and I've never had to truly struggle for anything. I'm in a bit of a rut in the sense that things are going TOO SMOOTHLY. My only true responsibility in life is keeping my cat alive, and c'mon, give him water and food, swish a laser pointer across the floor for a bit, and he's living the high life. So back to the question - "Why are you doing this?" It's time to mix things up a bit! I'm trying to force myself to do 52 things that I either haven't done, or haven't done enough of. I want to get out of my comfort zone. I want to help people. I want to help myself. The end goal is to improve my community and myself. Life is about gaining experiences and I need to put myself into a position where I can help others while also helping myself. Win win situations are awesome.

A goal I've set is to help motivate others to try 52 things! I will post all of my brainstormed ideas (thanks friends and coworkers, they came up with some great ones!) to help you complete your list - this will be posted soon! If you are reading this and want to join me in trying 52 things, I encourage you to contact me by leaving a comment here. I look forward to sharing my experiences throughout 2014 and hope I can make a difference in at least one person's life and also my own.
